OAKLAND -- Warriors coach Dave Cowens acknowledged he's considering a somewhat revolutionary approach when it comes to deciding on his starting five come the regular season. Cowens said he likely will forgo a set starting lineup in favor of changing it from game to game.

Cowens used his third different starting lineup in five exhibition games Sunday in the Warriors' 100-84 loss to the Seattle SuperSonics at the Arena. Apparently, that's not simply exhibition-season whimsy, it's the way it's going to be when the Warriors open the regular season against the Portland Trail Blazers on Oct. 31.

"I've been reading a lot about what baseball managers have been doing and how they dicker around with the lineup depending on who they're playing," Cowens said before the game. "There are a lot of different ways to manage and a lot of different ways to coach. I feel that as long as there are no surprises and you have conversations with players and lay out the rationale, it can work. If we're all trying to get to the same place, there shouldn't be any problems."
