Trail Blazers newcomer Ruben Patterson will change the way a game is watched at the Rose Garden, as evidenced by a hair-raising, seat-rattling exhibition season that was epitomized Tuesday night during the Blazers' 86-81 win over the Golden State Warriors in front of 16,562.

Patterson was all over the place -- tight-roping press row, deflecting passes deep into the stands, burning his knees on the court and scoring from everywhere en route to 23 points, eight rebounds and four assists.

"Everybody in Seattle used to call me the 'Junkyard Dog,' " Patterson said. "That's just me. I like to play hard, dive on the floor, play defense and go for the rebound. That's my game and that's what I'm going to continue to do for the team."

"He plays that way night in and night out," Cheeks said. "His play is what it is -- hard work. He just gets it done. You don't have to run many plays for him because he just makes things happen."
