RealGM has projected teams will not pay the dreaded luxury tax this year. That's based on expecting total league revenues to increase by at least five percent. Some of that increase is locked in by TV revenues, but some has to come from elsewhere.
It's going to be tough to see that kind of increase from ticket sales. Increased ticket revenues usually come from increased prices. But the Associated Press reports that league-wide ticket prices are down by 2.3 percent, averaging $50.10. Sixteen of the league's 29 teams report an average drop in prices.
Hopefully some sanity is prevailing, and teams are recognizing they need to make the game more affordable.
