Timberwolves forward Kevin Garnett said he was invited by USA Basketball to play in next summer's world championships in Indianapolis, but he declined, for now.
"I told them to give some other guys the chance to be on the team," said Garnett, who played in the 2000 Summer Olympics. "I'm not a selfish person; give some other guys the chance to experience that, and create their own stories and all that. If at the end, they don't have the quality guys, I'll take that into account."
Forward Wally Szczerbiak, who played in Australia last summer for Team USA in the Goodwill Games, said he has not been called, but "I've had good experiences with Team USA, and if they give me a call, I'll be ready to go."
Milwaukee's Ray Allen, New Jersey's Jason Kidd, Indiana's Reggie Miller, Toronto's Antonio Davis, Phoenix's Shawn Marion, Dallas' Michael Finley and Indiana's Jermaine O'Neal have been chosen for the team. Five slots remain.
