Pat Riley read what Alonzo Mourning said Monday about scaling back and not trying to do too much in a game.

Riley would like more of his players to do the same.

"Our problem as a team stems from that mentality -- a lot of guys are trying to prove, they're trying to do too much. They're not settling into what they have to do to help the team win," Riley said. "It's not as much of 'What can I do?' as much as 'What can I do to help us win?' "

Not that Mourning has to become a role player. Riley believes that between Eddie Jones, Brian Grant and Mourning, there are so many shots to go around.

"It could be maybe him taking less than 15 shots and getting 15 rebounds and four blocks and eight assists," Riley said. "I don't know. We'll only know if that ever happens."

Riley believes Mourning felt responsible for Saturday's loss to Sacramento. Mourning shot 5-of-20 from the field and scored 11 points with eight rebounds. That's what caused Mourning to say, "I just try to force the issue and push through it and in a lot of ways, it's not really smart."
