Eldridge Recasner's hard-luck stay with the Hornets came to an end yesterday when the team put him on waivers.
The Hornets filled Recasner's spot on the roster by activating forward Jerome Moiso from the injured list.
Recasner, a 6-4 guard in his eighth NBA season, had appeared in one game this season, going scoreless in two minutes in a win over New York. He averaged 2.4 points in 43 games last season.
"I needed more athleticism, which Moiso provides," Coach Paul Silas said. "He can really run the court, he's a high jumper, and I felt we needed more size. Eldridge was not playing, he wasn't happy, and we gave him a choice - either you get waived or you go on the injured list. He was not willing to go on the injured list."
Recasner was signed as a free agent before the lockout-shortened 1999 season to provide long-range shooting after the departure of Dell Curry, then later was asked to move to point guard. It never worked out, however.
In October of 1999, he suffered life-threatening injuries as the passenger in an automobile accident, spending more than three months in the hospital. He wound up missing all but seven games that season, and he has never been able to get his career back on track.
