The Raptors always knew that Zelijko Rebraca could play. At issue was how much the seven-footer's game was worth.
After more than two years of trying to sign the native of Yugoslavia, the Raptors dealt the rights to the 29-year-old Rebraca to the Detroit Pistons last summer for a second-round draft pick in 2002. The Pistons then raised eyebrows when they signed Rebraca to a contract that will pay him $3.5 million US this season, with team options for the following two seasons.
At this point, it appears to be money well spent.
Rebraca had 10 points and four rebounds in the Pistons' 88-84 win against the Raptors last night. On the season, Rebraca is averaging 7.8 points and 5.2 rebounds for the surprising 7-2 Pistons.
