Shareef Abdur-Rahim was giving thanks to the Detroit Pistons after he dropped 50 of them, the highest output of his NBA career. The Pistons don't double-team, which left Abdur-Rahim open for layups, dunks and hooks almost at will on the usually defensivally solid Ben Wallace.
''I'm selling these for $59.95 a piece. I'm through talking about it. You've got to see it." said teammate Jason Terry, who admitted to standing around just watching Shareef at times. He did it in front of 40 family and friend, who were in the crowd, which he says was important to him. "That made it special," Abdur-Rahim said. "Usually I have 30 or so at the game, but because of Thanksgiving everybody was here tonight."
Shareef's 50 point game was the first by an NBA player this season, a first at Philips Arena, and the first by a Hawks player since Dominique Wilkins scored 52 against the Knicks, Dec. 7, 1991.
