Heat coach Pat Riley said he would have to dig deep into his motivational bag of tricks to help the Heat get out of their longest funk in years, which is at 11 straight losses after Friday's 84-75 loss to Washington.
He found his latest gem by reading what his players have said after each of the losses.
"I hear my players make vague statements about, `I've never been through this before. I'm just trying to digest this. This has never happened to me before.' So what. Grow up. Who are you to be above going through something like this or having a losing streak?"
Riley's two biggest stars, Eddie Jones and Alonzo Mourning, have made such comments. But that's not all Riley has heard that has disappointed him.
"Then they'll say something like, `You just have to keep coming back,' " Riley said. "No, no, no, no. You don't just keep coming back the same way, making the same mistakes, missing the same shots, turning the basketball over. You can't just keep coming back, you have to come back differently. What is it that you can do differently? They have to come back differently."
