Oh, no. See what Michael Jordan's return has done?
According to reports in the Detroit News, former Pistons center Bison Dele wants to get back in the league. His agent, Dwight Manley, has confirmed that Dele, who retired from the Pistons before the 1999-2000 season, wants to come back.
Manley has been sending out feelers across the league to see if there is any interest.
"We're obviously surprised by this," said John Hammond, the Pistons' director of player personnel, to the Detroit News. "We haven't heard a word from Dwight. If it is true, we would obviously explore any possibilities that would improve our team."
The Pistons are at the salary cap and since Dele officially retired from the league, he is not considered a veteran free agent. That means the Pistons could not exceed the salary cap to sign him. It also means the Pistons could not work a sign-and-trade deal with him. They could sign him to a minimum contract.
If the Pistons don't want Dele, he would be available to any other team through the league's waiver process. That means the teams with the worst records last season would get first shot at him.
