As Heat coach Pat Riley continues to lament his team's lack of foul shots, it's not as if the Heat has done much with its limited opportunities.
Entering Monday's play, the Heat was 28th in the 29-team NBA from the free-throw line at .670, with only the Shaquille O'Neal-handicapped Lakers worse at .663.
The Heat came out of Sunday's loss in Sacramento ranked third to last with its 400 attempts, an average of 22.2.
Among those weighing down the Heat has been point guard Anthony Carter, who is shooting .519 from the line, worst of any of the starters.
"I know I'm struggling at the line," Carter said. "It was something I had to work on in practice."
Carter's struggle at the line seemingly has translated into a timid approach to driving the ball, with most of his shots coming from the perimeter. Carter shot .750 from the line as a rookie two years ago and .631 from the line last season.
