Ron Tillery of the Memphis Commercial Appeal speculates that the odds of Bryant Reeves retiring are greater than the odds of him playing again.

He has a debilitating injury with three degenerative discs that have begun to protrude into his spinal column. He has experienced tingling in his feet, which means the injury is affecting certain nerves.

"It's not good," Reeves said of his condition. "Some days I can't even get out of bed. I lay in bed all day with pain and spasms. Even on good days I have pain all the time, but I can get up and walk around a little bit. You look forward to those good days."

The Grizzlies' insurance deal for Reeves is that after he misses 41 consecutive games the Grizzlies can file an insurance claim that would cover 80 percent of Reeves's salary.
