Jerry Stackhouse really doesn't see what all the fuss is about. So he made some passes. So he got some assists. What's the big deal?
"I am just drawing a lot of defensive attention and guys are getting a lot of high-percentage shots and they are making them," he said.
The last time Stackhouse played, against the Sonics on Dec. 5, he tied a career high with 11 assists. On Thursday night, in the Pistons' 99-97 victory over the Knicks, he topped that with 13.
Stackhouse took only 11 shots, but he managed 19 points, including three game-clinching free throws in the final 14 seconds.
This is clearly not last year's Stackhouse model.
"He's just totally committed to winning," Coach Rick Carlisle said. "He is doing a lot of new things this year. But the greatest thing he did tonight was, he let the game come to him. The Knicks were reacting to his every movement on the court. He stayed patient and he made the right passes."
