There is trouble brewing in Raptor city. This is no longer a slump. It's a full-blown crisis.
In recent home games, the Raptors have explored the outer limits of futility and the entire mess coagulated into something truly putrid yesterday.
Nothing that anybody said in the wake of this embarrassing collapse against Michael Jordan and the Washington Wizards provided any meaningful insight into what is wrong but it's clear that something is.
Somehow, the Wizards, until recently a lightly regarded outfit, were allowed to overcome an early 19-point Toronto lead, then breeze home to a 93-88 win, in a game that was not nearly as close as the final score would indicate.
Two weeks ago, the Boston Celtics undressed the Raptors at the Air Canada Centre and, in the process, Toronto set a couple of team records for ineptitude, including fewest points in a quarter.
A few days later, the Raptors played in a semi-coma for most of the game against the Denver Nuggets, then pulled out a dramatic win in overtime, thanks to Vince Carter's heroics. Since then, they have been beaten four times in succession, looking lifeless in the process.
But none of that could have prepared anyone in the building for yesterday's humiliation.
