Ham, 28, was arrested at 11:50 p.m. Monday, just hours after the Bucks had returned from a game at Chicago.
The arrest took place at a residence on the city's east side, said Milwaukee police Lt. John Andrews. According to Andrews, officers responded at about 10:27 p.m. because of an alleged dispute between Ham and his 25-year-old wife.
Ham was released on $500 bail Tuesday morning from Milwaukee County Jail. The charge of domestic violence-battery is a class A misdemeanor, punishable by up to nine months in prison and / or a fine of up to $10,000.
Milwaukee Bucks forward Darvin Ham apologized Tuesday for his New Year's Eve arrest on allegations of domestic violence-battery against his wife.
"I am very sorry about the situation, and for the anguish and embarrassment this has caused my wife and our entire family, as well as the Bucks organization, my teammates and fans," Ham said in a statement released through the team.
"Anyone who knows me well knows that this is not representative of my character, and I will not hide from the responsibility of working through this to make our family stronger. My wife means the world to me, and I will not let one lapse in judgment overcome my love and commitment to her and to our children."
