Pistons captain Jerry Stackhouse wants his team to trade for troubled Portland Trail Blazers power forward Rasheed Wallace, just as long as the deal does not involve him or Ben Wallace.
But he wants to go a step further.
Stackhouse said he would shoulder the responsibility to ensure that Wallace provides constructive, not destructive, chemistry to the Pistons' championship hopes. He would watch over him like a big brother.
Stackhouse believes he can push Wallace in ways others cannot because they were teammates at North Carolina and remain friends.
Wallace, a talented player, could turn this franchise around. The problem is his volatile temper, which could ruin chemistry and send the Pistons into the same nosedive the Trail Blazers are experiencing.
Wallace is reportedly being shopped around, and reports out of New York say the Knicks are interested and might be willing to part with Allan Houston or Marcus Camby.
