Games are most often won -- and in the Heat's case lost -- in the fourth quarter. So Miami was relieved to have its best offensive quarter of the season against the Warriors on Monday in an 85-79 win.

``Guys were putting forth the effort that we didn't have in the Phoenix game,'' center Alonzo Mourning said, referring to the Heat's 108-74 loss to the Suns on Saturday.

The Heat outscored the Warriors 31-23 in the final period, sinking a season-best 10 of 13 field-goal attempts, including three three-pointers by Eddie Jones.

The Heat guard scored 10 points in the period on 3-of-4 shooting. His three-pointer with 5:17 left gave Miami its first lead since 1:14 remained in the second quarter.

``I was getting a lot of good looks in the first half; it was just me taking my time, dwelling on missed shots,'' said Jones, who was 3 for 12 before halftime. ``I said, `Forget it. If I get open, I'm taking the shot.' ''

MOURNING SITS

Mourning sat out parts of Tuesday's practice at UCLA with a sore right ankle, but he said the injury will not affect his status for tonight's game.

Mourning twisted his ankle in the first half against the Warriors, but he said his ``adrenaline was going. That's what I finished the game on.

``I woke up [Tuesday] morning, and it was real stiff and sore.''
