It happened again Tuesday against Toronto and it has happened with alarming regularity during the Pistons' recent skid.
The Pistons will be in the game after one quarter. Coach Rick Carlisle will go to his bench to start the second quarter and by halftime, the Pistons will be facing a double-digit deficit.
"The complexion of that second unit has changed over the last month," Carlisle said. "It's not fair to dump it all on them."
No, it's not. But the fact is, the Pistons have been outscored in the second quarter, by an average of 9.9 points, in each of their last nine losses. They won the second quarter in each of their last three victories.
"We just changed the lineup again two games ago," said Jon Barry, who along with Corliss Williamson, Zeljko Rebraca and, now, Damon Jones, make up the Pistons' second unit. "It's just another period where we have to get used to what we're doing. This group worked really well for us earlier in the season and I have no doubt that we will get back to that level once we get comfortable again."
