The Timberwolves' string of games against mediocre Eastern Conference opponents was supposed to be a tuneup, a leisurely stroll to pad the victory column and gain confidence before shifting their focus to more pressing matters this week.
It didn't quite follow that script, but the Wolves believe they have emerged from their two-week malaise in time to tackle arguably their biggest stretch of games this season.
Beginning with today's game against Sacramento at Target Center, the Wolves play three games in four days, a stern challenge made more difficult by the circumstances. They face the hottest team in the NBA this afternoon, their biggest rival (San Antonio) on the road Monday and the suddenly resurgent Portland Trail Blazers at home on Wednesday.
