Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer reports: Hornets guard David Wesley will miss the next 3-4 weeks of the NBA season with a cracked bone in his left foot.

The diagnosis came Monday, just as Jamal Mashburn, the Hornets' leading scorer last season, practiced for the first time since November. Mashburn, recovering from a severe abdominal strain, will likely be activated for the Feb. 18 game against the Milwaukee Bucks.

The Hornets aren't likely to sign another guard to replace Wesley, coach Paul Silas said. Instead, power forward Robert Traylor will likely be reactivated after missing time with a sprained ankle. Bryce Drew is now the only true guard playing off the bench for the Hornets.

Wesley will spend 3-4 weeks in a protective boot and surgery is not anticipated, according to Hornets spokesman Harold Kaufman. Wesley missed the past two games with the injury, and Silas expects to continue with the lineup he used in those games - with Lee Nailon at shooting guard and George Lynch at small forward.

Silas indicated that when Mashburn is ready to play, he'll likely step right into the starting lineup. Most likely that would be at shooting guard, with Lynch staying at small forward and Nailon playing off the bench.
