The Associated Press reports that Toronto Raptors star Vince Carter will miss the NBA All-Star Game after straining his left quadriceps Thursday night against San Antonio.
Charlotte guard Baron Davis was picked Friday to replace Carter.
Carter, the leading vote-getter for the All-Star Game for the third straight year, was injured while driving to the basket with 1:31 left in the second quarter. He is expected to be sidelined at least 10 days.
"He reaggravated his left quad tendon," Raptors spokesman Jim LaBumbard said. "That is similar to the injury he had last year."
Carter missed seven games, including five straight, last season because of the injury.
LaBumbard said Stu Jackson, the NBA's Senior Vice President of Basketball Operations, excused Carter from All-Star Weekend.
Davis joins Elton Brand as a newly christened first-time All-Star. Brand was named to the West All-Star Team yesterday, replacing Shaquille O'Neal.
