The Rocky Mountain News is reporting that the Denver Nuggets do have a deal on the table for Nick Van Exel but it would require the disgruntled point guard to opt out of the last two years of his contract.  Van Exel had said earlier that he was willing to do that but lately has been fudging on just what circumstances he would need to give up the 26.5 million dollars involved.

Van Exel has given conflicting statements recently about what he is willing to do. He has said he will forgo some salary if he is dealt to a franchise that needs salary-cap room to sign a free agent. He also has claimed the idea of giving up that money originated with Nuggets general manager Kiki Vandeweghe, but Vandeweghe has denied that.

Vandeweghe refused to comment Monday about specific trade proposals, but confirmed he no longer is sure Van Exel will forgo the final two years of his deal.

"My understanding is, he is vacillating at this point," Vandeweghe said.
