The NBA could wait. Eventually, a playoff game, maybe a Finals game, will be decided on a last-second shot that comes after the last second. Replays will be shown. Officials will be ridiculed. The wrong team will win.

Maybe the shot won't count. Kobe Bryant or Tim Duncan could have his moment of last-second glory, but an official will think he didn't, wave off the shot and one of the memorable sports moments will instead become an embarrassment.

The league can wait and continue to prevent officials from looking at the television replay monitors everyone else will study.

Or the NBA could learn from mistakes and act before the day comes when a mistake robs from it one of the great moments in league history.
