The Rockets were well on the way to a record-low 29.9 percent shooting performance and a humiliating 101-74 loss to the Sacramento Kings on March 28. The following day, Tomjanovich met with Alexander and general manager Carroll Dawson to plan and discuss the direction the organization will take following the Rockets' worst campaign in two decades.
The two sides came out of the private meeting on the same page regarding one major issue: finding a way to return the Rockets to respectability.
"I really got a great feeling about the unity, just like we did at the beginning when we said we were going to go and find a way to make this a championship team," Tomjanovich said following Monday's workout at Compaq Center. "It sounds like a far-fetched idea right now, but we've never lost that focus. We've been in battle and wounded. And yeah, we're losing the battles now. But the war is not over."
