Without any choreography or urging from the scoreboard, more than 18,000 fans at the Air Canada Centre last night stood up and turned the other cheek.
American fans booed O Canada before Game 1 of the NBA Eastern Conference playoff series between the Raptors and Detroit Pistons at the Palace in Auburn Hills, Mich., last Sunday and in Long Island before Game 6 of the NHL Eastern Conference quarter-final between the Maple Leafs and the New York Islanders on Sunday night.
But last night, before Game 4 of the Raptors-Pistons series, the Toronto faithful applauded The Star Spangled Banner and cheered even louder when the U.S. flag was displayed on the scoreboard.
