Mark Monteith of the Indianapolis Star reports that Team USA used a strong second half to defeat New Zeleand and remain unbeaten. They will face unbeaten Argentina tonight.

New Zealand, throwing the United States off-balance early with a zone defense and crisp offensive execution, led by as many as six points in the first half and trailed by six at halftime. But a 27-10 third-quarter outburst resolved the issue prematurely for the 4,543 fans in attendance.

"We tried every trick in the book," New Zealand coach Tab Baldwin said. "That's what we felt we had to do. For a while things worked, but the water on the other side of the dam is pretty deep and pretty cold, and we didn't have enough fingers to hold it."

The pattern of a slow first half followed by a second half outburst doesn?t worry U.S. coach George Karl. He sees it as an issue with unfamiliarity with each other. "That's basketball," Karl said. "You don't blow good teams away early. You wear them down and make adjustments. Our guys have done a good job of being serious in the second half."

"From now on the game begins," Karl said after his team's 110-62 victory over New Zealand on Tuesday. "Every opponent the rest of the way has a genuine opportunity to beat us if we don't play the right way. "We're going to have to play 40 minutes of serious playoff basketball."
