Herb Kohl said last January that he hoped the sale of the Milwaukee Bucks could be "a non-event." He's not the only one.

That would rule out Michael Jordan's participation, because Jordan can't tie his shoes without somebody turning it into a documentary. You can imagine the fuss if he bought this team.

You can also imagine the consequences, and they wouldn't be nearly as beneficial as they'd be if the senator sold locally. Nothing personal, Michael, but would you mind getting out of the way?

League sources say the sale of the Bucks is now strictly in David Stern's hands. When the commissioner has a deal, he'll bring it to the senator. Both Stern and Kohl want top dollar for the Bucks.

But Kohl has been clear that he'll sell only to someone who will keep the team in Milwaukee, and we're all in favor of that. So it's crucial that the new owners have real roots in this city.
