There were plenty of intriguing new faces at AmericanAirlines Arena on Monday as the Heat began workouts with its summer-league team.
But it was one familiar face that received the most attention.
Caron Butler was practicing and said and he plans to
play in at least two of the Heat's five games.
Coach Pat Riley wants Butler to use the summer league to get comfortable playing point guard. Butler said he handled the duties the entire time he was on the court Monday and felt comfortable despite being defended by smaller, quicker guards Marcus Hatten of St. John's and Scoonie Penn.
''With a smaller opponent, they want me to play more like Magic [ Johnson] did, dribbling the ball up the court with your back [to the defender],'' Butler said. ``I'm not used to that, but I'm learning.''
