Less than a week after the Nets noisily denied stories that Jason Kidd demanded coach Byron Scott's firing, Scott's contract status beyond this season remains an unresolved issue, and it appears possible the Nets might allow Scott to enter the final season of his current deal without an extension.

Scott and his agent, Brian McInerny, had a conversation with Nets president Rod Thorn yesterday and brought up the subject of renegotiating Scott's contract, yet they left Thorn's office without any assurances Scott will be offered an extension.

"We agreed this wasn't the biggest priority right now," McInerny said. "In the order of priorities, finding qualified assistant coaches and completing the roster is of greater importance. Rod and Byron agreed on that. I have total faith in whatever decision Rod makes."

McInerny declined to answer further questions about the matter. Thorn and Scott could not be reached for comment.

Scott said on Saturday he would like a new contract and would be willing to sign an extension if the Nets offered one.

"I would love to be here for years to come," Scott said then. "I've said before I want to be here when Jason Kidd passes the torch to Kenyon Martin, and I still feel the same way."
