Sacramento Kings assistant coach Terry Porter returned to town for a second interview with the Milwaukee Bucks on Sunday, the Milwaukee native confirmed in a phone conversation on Monday night.

Meanwhile, a source close to Atlanta Hawks coach Terry Stotts said the former Bucks assistant also had been granted a second interview during the past weekend.

It appears the Bucks are close to making a decision on a new coach, and could have a leader in place later this week. The Bucks are searching for a replacement for George Karl, who was fired by team management on July 20.

Porter, 40, met on Sunday at the Cousins Center in St. Francis with the Bucks' owner, Sen. Herb Kohl, and vice president of business operations John Steinmiller. The Kings assistant did not meet again with Bucks general manager Larry Harris, after speaking with him in the initial interview last week.

"I think it went well," said Porter, who played 17 years in the National Basketball Association, including 10 with the Portland Trail Blazers. "I'm sure it's a close decision, and I just kind of have to wait and see.

"They really didn't give me a time frame, but they'll probably try to figure out something pretty soon."

Stotts and Porter are considered the front-runners in a search that also has included Detroit Pistons assistant coach Mike Woodson, Phoenix Suns assistant Marc Iavaroni and former Bucks player and ex-Dallas Mavericks assistant Sidney Moncrief.
