In the first four games of the Tournament of the Americas Olympic qualifier, much of the buzz was about how shot-happy 76ers guard Allen Iverson had morphed into a pass-first team player who looked to score when all other options had been exhausted.

Tonight, against Canada in Team USA's first game of the second round, Iverson looked to score first and often and, to the chagrin of no one, he put on a dazzling show that kept the crowd at Roberto Clemente Coliseum highly entertained and kept the United States unbeaten.

Iverson scored a game-high 28 points, more than any other U.S. player in an Olympic qualifying event, to propel the United States to a 111-71 victory over Canada. He inflicted most of his damage in the third quarter, when he scored 21 points, all on three-point shots (seven) -- including a 35-footer at the period-ending horn -- another record by a U.S. player in this type of event.

"I felt every shot was going in," said Iverson, who made 10 of 13 shots, seven of eight from three-point range. "Usually when I get into a zone they're kind of layups and short jumpers but all of them [tonight] were behind the arc. This three-point line is shorter than the one in the league so they were regular in-rhythm jump shots. The last one I took, I felt like it was going in. I felt like every shot I put up was going to go in. My teammates did a great job of getting me the ball in the spots that I need them. They knew I was hot so they came to me."
