SHUTDOWN STANDARD
Detroit set an NBA record by holding its 34th consecutive opponent below 100 points in a 99-93 win over the Warriors on Saturday night. Detroit broke the under-100 points record set by the New York Knicks in 2000-01.
STRONG IN DEFEAT
Minnesota's Kevin Garnett had 27 points, 22 rebounds, and seven assists in a 119-112 loss to the Mavericks Saturday night. ... Orlando's Tracy McGrady had 34 points and six assists in a 112-103 loss to the Grizzlies. ... New Orleans' Baron Davis scored 35 points in a 91-84 loss to the Pacers.
WRONGLY TOSSED
Pistons coach Larry Brown was mistakenly ejected in the third quarter of the Pistons' 99-93 victory over the Golden State Warriors on Saturday night. Moments after Richard Hamilton was given a technical foul for arguing a foul call with 4:31 left in the third quarter, Brown was also given a technical. Official Pat Fraher, believing referee Tim Donaghy had called the first technical on Brown instead of Hamilton, had the coach escorted from the court. After a discussion, it was announced that Brown could come back, but he didn't. The game marked Brown's 900th career coaching victory.
SCRUM IN INDY
A shoving match between Indiana's Al Harrington and New Orleans' George Lynch escalated into a fight in the Pacers 91-84 win, leading to the ejections of Harrington, Lynch and New Orleans center Jamaal Magloire. The fight broke out with 9:15 to play in the fourth quarter when Harrington was called for a foul on Lynch near the Pacers' bench. After an extended delay, the three ejections were announced and play resumed with Indiana leading 75-57.
STIFLING ROCKETS
The Houston Rockets played the best defensive game in their history Saturday night in an 84-63 victory over the Utah Jazz. The previous lowest point total for a Rockets opponent was 66 by both the 76ers and Bulls earlier this season.
IRONMAN
Tests on Miami Heat center Brian Grant's right knee Saturday did not show structural damage, and Grant was expected to be available for Monday's home game against Eastern Conference-leading Indiana. Grant has started 115 consecutive games for Miami, including all 33 this season with averages of 8.9 points and 8.2 rebounds.

``That's baloney. The last thing I want any of these guys to do is use that as an excuse,'' Spurs coach Gregg Popovich, when asked if a six-day layoff might have contributed to his team's loss to the 76ers.
