OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) Troy Murphy is hurt again, more bad luck for the Golden State forward.
Murphy sat out his second straight game Saturday night when the Warriors played Seattle, this time because of a bone spur on his right ankle. It's the same foot he injured in training camp, forcing him to miss the entire preseason and the first 22 games of the regular season.
Trainers don't believe the injuries are related, though Murphy thinks it's possible.
Murphy had an MRI and received a cortisone shot Friday and was expected to play against the SuperSonics, but he felt excruciating pain ``one hot minute'' into Saturday morning's shootaround and had to quit.
``It's frustrating,'' said the 6-foot-11 Murphy, who's averaging 7.5 points and 6.1 rebounds in 11 games. ``I just wish I could be out there. I guess we've got to figure out another way of attacking this. We felt we could combat this with the cortisone shot.''
Murphy's ankle is bruised, swollen and inflamed. He believes part of the problem was because he was ``babying it'' as he recovered from a torn plantar fascia. He is taking anti-inflammatories.
The Warriors, who went into Saturday's game on a season-long seven-game losing streak, have been plagued by injuries.
Center Adonal Foyle is on the injured list as he recovers from left knee surgery. He has missed 32 games and played only once this season.
He could return in four or five games, but coach Eric Musselman is concerned both Murphy and Foyle might have returned too quickly, causing further setbacks.
During the preseason, Musselman had high expectations for his team to upgrade its defense, and Foyle was part of that plan. The Warriors also worked with Murphy to help him become a better 3-point shooter. Not having those two _ players Musselman trusts and knows from his rookie coaching season last year _ has hurt.
``Out of our top six players, two of them haven't been with us all season long,'' Musselman said. ``You have to give the guys who have been in uniform a lot of credit.''
The Warriors have missed the playoffs the past nine seasons.
