CHANEY OUT, WILKENS IN

The Knicks fired Don Chaney and his top two assistants, Brendan Malone and Lon Kruger, on Wednesday, and hired Lenny Wilkens as head coach. Chaney was 77-112 in two-plus seasons in New York. Wilkens, 66, is the NBA leader in career coaching victories and losses. He most recently coached in Toronto, but was fired after last season.

KOBE INJURED

Lakers guard Kobe Bryant was placed on the injured list Wednesday with a sprained right shoulder. Bryant, the NBA's seventh-leading scorer with a 22-point average, injured the shoulder in Monday's game against the Cavaliers.

STRONG IN DEFEAT

Glenn Robinson and Allen Iverson combined for 65 points in Philadelphia's 125-122 overtime loss to the Mavericks on Wednesday night. ... Tim Duncan had 36 points, 20 rebounds, and seven assists in a 100-93 loss to the Timberwolves.

BACK-TO-BACK

Dallas's Antoine Walker became the first Mavericks player in eight years to record a triple-double in back-to-back games in a 125-122 double-overtime win over the 76ers on Wednesday night. Walker reached the milestone with 11 points, 17 rebounds and 13 assists _ but shot 4-of-19 and fouled out in the final minute of the second overtime. The last Dallas player to record the feat was Jason Kidd on Jan. 12-13, 1996.
