Ron Artest finally got his spot on the NBA All-Defensive 1st team, after missing out on it last season, even though he then finished 2nd in voting for the Defensive Player of the Year. This year, however, he found a way to improve in both those categories. G Ron Artest, who finished ranked 3rd in the league in steals per game and held the players he guarded to only 8.1 points on 9.3 shots per game, led the voting for the NBA All-Defensive teams, was joined on the 1st team C Ben Wallace, F Kevin Garnett, G Kobe Bryant, and G Bruce Bowen.

This is Wallace's 3rd consecutive 1st team selection, but he's still behind Garnett, who has 5 such appearances. Other 1st teamers, Bryant and Bowen, each have 3 and 4 All-Defensive apperances, respectively.

NBA's All-Defensive 2nd team consists of:
G Doug Christie
G Jason Kidd
C Theo Ratliff
F Andrei Kirilenko
F Tim Duncan
