Larry Brown would love to have Rasheed Wallace back next season. He'll become a free agent July 1.

Joe Dumars, the team's president of basketball operations, also would love to have the 6-foot-11 forward-center back if he could get Wallace to sign a deal that would keep him and Mehmet Okur on board.

Asked what advice the coach would give Wallace about deciding his future, Brown said: "I would tell him to do whatever makes him and his family happy.

"I would love to have him back here. I don't even get into that with him. He knows I want him to do what's best for him and his family. The fact that he's here this year has been a great thing for me -- all us Carolina guys. If he asked me for advice, I'd tell him 'Do what's best for you and your family.' I'd love for him to be here, but either way, he'll make a decision for the right reason as most players do.

"I believe if we did all the right things by him through his experience here, then we'll have a shot. If we haven't, then he might not be here."
