Ron Artest was fined $10,000 by the NBA league office for an obscene gesture he made during Monday's playoff loss to Detroit.

Artest extended the middle finger of each hand during the fourth quarter of the Pacers' 72-67 loss.  He was running the floor at the time and appeared to direct the gesture to nobody in particular.

"I think for a gesture like that, there's going to be a harsh penalty," Artest said. "Sometimes your emotions get the best of you. You don't like doing stuff like that because it's on TV and kids can see it.

Meanwhile, Rasheed Wallace shouted obscenities to the crowd as he left the floor after the Game 2 victory.  Wallace had been the target of abuse by the Indiana crowd after he guaranteed that the Pistons would win Game 2.  "Rasheed Wallace is a special cat," Pacers guard Anthony Johnson commented.  "From what I know of him, he's a good dude. I really can't speak for him, but you have to carry yourself in a professional manner because you're representing a lot of other people . . . your family, your team, your organization."
