The early word is that the Nets self-destructed by making one of the worst trades in NBA history, dumping Kenyon Martin and getting back three draft picks in return.
The trade may prove that the Nets will be run only as a business with the new ownership group, headed by Bruce C. Ratner, in control.
The Nets need to run and Martin was a crucial element to that mix, with his rebounding and athleticism.
Now look for Richard Jefferson to sign a one-year deal next off-season and be gone the year after too.
Martin is just entering his prime at 26 years of age, and is one of the best defenders in the game. The Nets just gave him away for not much.
