Dwayne Schintzius, a 7-foot-2 center who starred at Florida and played for six NBA teams, was arrested in Tampa early yesterday on a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence.

Schintzius, 35, refused to take a blood-alcohol test after he was stopped by a Tampa Police Department officer at 3:42 a.m. at the intersection of Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard and I-4. He was released from Orient Road Jail on $500 bond at 12:16 p.m.

Schintzius, who graduated from Brandon High as a McDonald's All-American, was listed with a Brandon address on the arrest report. He ranks fifth on Florida's all-time career scoring list and was a first-round draft pick of the San Antonio Spurs in 1990. He averaged 2.7 points per game in a nondescript nine-year NBA career that ended in 1999 with the Boston Celtics. His occupation on the arrest report was listed as "trainer."
