Sam Smith of the Chicago Tribune surveys the NBA winners and losers over the course of the first half of the season.

Smith calls this the Year of the Offense, with eight teams averaging more than 100 points per game. This is the most teams over the century mark in eight years. NBA offenses are once again looking to put points on the board.

Steve Nash is the early MVP favorite, while the Dallas Mavericks are the early winners of the worst offseason move, letting the great playmaking point guard walk.

Nate McMillan is the Coach of the Year for turning the Sonics into a juggernaut.

Back to the Suns for Executive of the Year:  Bryan Colangelo, for re-making his team into a winner, largely for the aforementioned Nash coup.  But both Johns Paxson and Weisbrod are in the running for improving their Chicago Bulls and Orlando Magic, respectively.
