The Seattle SuperSonics today signed General Manager Rick Sund to a multi-year contract extension, Sonics & Storm President and CEO Wally Walker announced.

?Rick has done excellent work as our general manager over the past four years, and we?re very pleased he?ll be continuing in his role,? said Walker. ?Rick does a superb job of managing our day-to-day basketball operations, a little-recognized, but critical component of his job.?

Sund, 54, possesses more than 30 years of front-office experience in the NBA. In the last four years that he?s served as Sonics general manager, the team has compiled a 174-154 (.530) record and has qualified for the postseason twice. During the 2004-05 season, the Sonics won the NBA?s inaugural Northwest Division Championship and advanced to the Western Conference Semifinals after eliminating Sacramento in the First Round, four games to one.

?I believe that with our mixture of veteran players and young talent, there is a very bright future for the Sonics,? said Sund. ?There are plenty of challenges ahead, but I greatly look forward to working with Wally, Nate and Howard Schultz to make this team better.?
