The University of Iowa has extended the current contract of head coach Steve Alford, making his contract through 2011.

"I have met with Coach Alford several times since my arrival. We've talked about our successes, about recruiting," said Barta in a statement released by the university. "We've also talked about challenges that have come up over the years and areas in which we need to improve."
