After an abbreviated first excursion into European basketball, Gerry McNamara is heading back to Greece.
McNamara has signed a contract with Panionios of the Greek professional league, his agent said Monday. McNamara started the 2006-07 season with Olympiakos, but left after playing just 30 seconds in the team's first five games. McNamara spent the remainder of the season with the Bakersfield Jam of the NBA Development League.
McNamara's agent, Bill Neff of Saga Sports, said the former Syracuse University star opted to return to Greece when two sprained ankles derailed his attempt to play for the Philadelphia 76ers in the NBA summer leagues in Las Vegas and Salt Lake City.
