Ed Pinckney is leaving the Villanova Wildcats to reunite with a former Wildcat.

Pinckney, an assistant on coach Jay Wright's bench for the past 4 years, will be named an assistant coach for the Minnesota Timberwolves, a source told the Daily News. In Minnesota, Pinckney will work with former Wildcat Randy Foye, the T-Wolves' No. 1 draft pick a year ago.

The MVP of the 1985 Final Four after leading Villanova to its storied national title, Pinckney played 12 years in the NBA. After retiring in 1997, he worked as part of the Miami Heat's broadcast team and later oversaw the team's mentoring program. Pinckney, who signed a 2-year deal with Minnesota, according to the source, joined Villanova in May 2003.

Instrumental in developing the Wildcats' big men, he also became a key part of Wright's recruiting team.
