The United States Basketball League announced the suspension of its 2008 season Thursday.
The league made the decision to increase the number of franchises before it schedules its next season and retained a New York investment company Colebrooke Capital to explore ways to improve the structure of the company, its sales, growth, and shareholder value.
"This process should reward shareholders and strengthen the USBL financially," USBL Commissioner Daniel T. Meisenheimer, III said.
The USBL helped develop the careers of a number of players and coaches over its 22-year history. Jamario Moon, a 2007 USBL All-First Team and All- Defensive Team selection, signed this past offseason with the Toronto Raptors and is averaging 7.7 points and 6.4 rebounds in 28 games this season.
Other USBL alumni include current NBA players Raja Bell, Mike James, and Darrell Armstrong as well as former NBA players Michael Adams, Spud Webb, "Muggsy" Bogues, Manute Bol, and Avery Johnson.
