Herb and Melvin Simon, who recently celebrated their 25th anniversary as co-owners of the Pacers, issued a statement stating their commitment to winning the team's fans back, according to The Indianapolis Star.

"Starting this moment, Job 1 for everyone in this organization is to concentrate on restoring "Pacers Pride." That is our mission, day in and day out," Herb Simon said in a letter to the editor of The Star.

Just a few years ago the Pacers were a title contender, but they missed the playoffs in consecutive seasons and have seen a significant decrease in attendance.

"We are making changes in the organization from top to bottom," he continued. "Larry Bird has assumed full control over basketball operations for the team, and I have the utmost confidence that he will do everything within his power to build a roster that values hustle, has a terrific work ethic, and is completely passionate about the game of basketball."

"We haven't forgotten that this is Indiana. We know you are the best fans in the country; your appreciation and knowledge of the game itself are unmatched. As a result, our mission is to make sure that the team we put on the court is one that you'll want to support," Herb concluded.
