Despite not having starting center Andrew Bogut (ankle), the Australian national team was able to give the Americans a solid game ahead of the actual Olympic opener on August 10, with the U.S. taking the game by 11 points.
LeBron James and Dwyane Wade again were key for the United States, who won the game 87-76. Wade finished with 22 points while James was unstoppable in passages, finishing with 16 points and three emphatic blocks, including one at the end of regulation when Australia had a chance to put the final result in single digits.
The Americans had a hard time stopping the penetration of 19 year old point guard Patrick Mills, who plays collegiate ball for St. Marys. Mills was able to get to the hoop at will, sharing game high honors in scoring for the Australians with former Chicago Bull Chris Anstey (13 points).
The Americans now prepare for their opening game in Beijing, against host China on August 10.
