The Hawks defeated the Pacers 122-118 on Friday night to clinch the fourth seed in the East, meaning they'll have home court advantage in the first round.
"Critics didn't give us a chance at the beginning," Atlanta's Josh Smith told the Associated Press. "That's what makes this so special."
Smith is the only holdover from a Hawks team that won just 13 games in 2004-05.
The final four seeds in the East are undecided, meaning the Hawks could host either the Heat, 76ers, Bulls or Pistons in the first round of the playoffs.
