NBA owners and players are planning to meet in Manhattan on Wednesday to continue negotiations on a new collective bargaining agreement.

The two sides are hoping to build on a positive first meeting in early August. However, no proposals were made last month. The players are anticipating that owners will demand major changes to the current agreement, which runs through the next two seasons.

"Maybe the optimism will change once we get into that type of conversation," Lakers guard Derek Fisher, president of the Players Association, told the New York Daily News.

"But it's very evident that everyone in the room has the same goal: That's to keep trying to grow the game into the No.1 sport in the world."
