In mid-July then-Nuggets executive Mark Warkentien was confident he was close to an agreement with Carmelo Anthony's representatives on a three-year, $65-million extension, according to sources.

Anthony still hasn't signed the contract and trade rumors have swirled since late July.

Since Warkentien believed he had secured Anthony over the long-term, things have changed drastically in Denver and around the NBA, which the Heat joining LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade together.

This summer, sources say Anthony couldn't get a definitive answer on the direction of the Nuggets or even who was running the organization.
